HV Replication Monitor 3.2: free, open source, and fixes for Windows Server 2025

HV Replication Monitor 3.2 is out, and it is now free and open source under the MIT license. There is nothing to buy and no license file to import. Download it here.

What is new in 3.2

  • Free and open source (MIT). No license file, no purchase. Version 3.2 ignores .lic files completely, and the installer no longer has a /License switch. Unknown switches are ignored, so scripts that still pass /License= keep working.
  • Fixed: the service could fail to start with error 1064 (event log: IQSHVReplMonService.exe, exception 0xe0434352). The causes were a missing or mismatched license file, or email enabled with a blank SMTP username (relays that need no login). Both are gone. If a setting really is invalid, the service now stops cleanly and the Application event log says exactly which setting is wrong.
  • Fixed: SMTP relays without authentication are supported. Leave the username and password blank.
  • Fixed: a suspended replication was reported as "FailedOver".
  • Fixed: after a host reboot, the first status email could report "Normal" with no VMs because Hyper-V had not finished loading them. The service now waits for the VMs (up to 5 minutes).
  • Fixed: emails could be delayed because mail server connections were not closed.
  • Fixed: the console's "Send test email" now reports success or the exact error.
  • The service now requires the Hyper-V role itself (the VMMS service), not just a hypervisor.
  • Tested on Windows Server 2025 build 26100.33438 (September 2026 update) with Hyper-V Replica in both directions.

Upgrading

Run the new installer over the old version. Your settings (Service.config) are kept. Version 3.1 and earlier still need their license file; upgrading removes that requirement. See the licensing guide.

The installer is not code-signed, so your browser or Windows SmartScreen may warn about it. The download page lists the SHA-256 checksum so you can verify the file. For installation steps, see the installation guide or the command-line guide.
